W-U: Add another paragraph to the end of “The Dog of Pompeii.” Write at least the next 5-10 lines of the story after Tito cries out for Bimbo, but cannot be comforted.
Today we read some nonfiction pieces about Pompeii. We compiled a chart of new information & completed a BCR. I will give you the info to read & the BCR to complete.

W-U: None, we got right to the story explanation.
We reviewed the narrative rubric that will be used to score our Tito story. Mrs. Korn reviewed these notes before writing:
-Topic sentence tell what paragraph will be about
Ex. I would like to tell you about the day my best friend saved my life.
-Use transition words/phrases to move from one event to another
Ex. First, Second, Next, After that, To begin with, Eventually, Meanwhile, Suddenly, Later, etc.
-*Use a comma if there is a natural

W-U: We did a punctuating dialogue exercise on the overhead. Please just write “Absent 12/18” for your W-U today.
We completed the prewriting organizer for our “Dog of Pompeii” writing assignment. See me for an organizer w/ the 2nd column completed & you will have to fill in similes &/or metaphors in the last column. We will use this to write our story tomorrow.

W-U: Pretend you were there when Mt. Vesuvius erupted. Write a descriptive paragraph of at least 5 lines of what it would have been like. Use at least 5 sensory words/phrases in your description & underline them.

We watched another clip on Mt. Vesuvius to explain what happened during the eruption. Students were given a historical fiction chart &used their sensory word chart from yesterday to fill in while reading the story “The Dog of Pompeii,” which can be read in the LOL on pages 124-134 or in our yellow Lit book from pages 314-324.
